Let’s start off with a hit, because baseball is here! It is officially October, which means that the World Series is near. The famous Major League Baseball teams, such as the Kansas City Royals, the Baltimore Orioles, the St. Louis Cardinals and the San Francisco Giants, are all vigorously trying to steal a spot in the World Series. Some argue that the Kansas City Royals will clinch a spot, whiles others believe that San Francisco will secure the finals. After viewing the heated debate on numerous teams, the Royals, when compared to three other teams, definitely have a shot at clinching a seat.
As of October 13, 2014, the Royals have secured a six game winning streak in their first postseason in 29 years, and they are 2-0 against the Baltimore Orioles.
It is not just the Orioles and the Royals that are fighting to secure their spot in the league. The Giants and the Cardinals are also clashing against each other to advance to the World Series.
Vamsi Talasila ’18, an avid fan and passionate follower of baseball, says, “Honestly, I think the Cardinals are most likely to secure a spot in the World Series alongside with the Royals. The Cardinals just have a tremendous pitching staff, and it’s great to watch them pitch. Matt Carpenter is among the Cardinals; that will definitely lead the Cardinals to the World Series because of his abilities at the plate.”
Many people have different opinions about the Division Series. Mr. Kern, the PAC manager at Ridge High School, believes that the Kansas City Royals and the San Francisco Giants might be able to earn a spot in the World Series. He contently said, “Kansas City and San Francisco have a better pitching staff than the other teams. Kansas City definitely will make it, because of their speed, pitching, and the fact that they have a very strong bullpen. Jarrod Dyson, outfielder on the Royals will be a key player at this time. He always gets on base by getting a hit or getting that bunt down. He always puts himself in scoring position which makes him a critical player at this point.”Mr. Kern has an interest in the New York Yankees, and he finds the Royals’ current situation similar to the Yankees’ in the 90s.
There are diverse fans in Ridge. Sid Bajpai ’17, another passionate baseball fan, said, “The Orioles are losing currently to the Royals, but their determination is something that is sure to drive them to the World Series. Adam Jones will definitely lead them, because of his batting abilities, and his leadership on the team.”
With all the Major League baseball teams fighting pugnaciously to secure a spot for their own teams, keep yourself tuned in to the World Series! As each day brings it closer and closer, it is
truly an exciting battle for the baseball fans, rattling on the edge of their seats and watching play after play. If you haven’t watched much baseball this season, do not fret – there is still some time left. The time is now.
