Even though only the first few weeks of high school have passed, most students are feeling their stress levels starting to rise. Ridge High School students- it’s too early to be bogged down by academia and an immense work load! It’s September- friends are reuniting, new clubs are arising, and most importantly, the Ridge Red Devils football team is kicking off its season magnificently!

The Red Devils played their first game of the season against North Hunterdon at Annandale, slaying the opponent with an incredible score of 45 to 13. Quarterback Duncan Roberts ’16 threw four touchdowns and covered 283 yards, completing 12 out of 23 outstanding passes. Running back Kermit Hoffman ’16 scored two touchdowns along with completing nine carries for 88 yards. Fullback Ben Rengulbai ’16 successfully had six carries for 23 yards. These Ridge Devils captains along with the cohesive efforts of the team, lead to a sweet victory.

With an immense amount of support from fellow Ridge students and excellent execution of various plays, the Red Devils skillfully ended the first half leading with a score of 26 to 0. During halftime, the Ridge High Marching Band performed a colorful performance exciting the crowd with talented musical arrangements and graceful color guard sequences. The Ridge Cheerleaders continuously energized the crowd with mastered routines and excited cheers. With the intensity of the game and raging spirit permeating the air, the night proved to be unforgettable.

That night, a patriotic theme resonated throughout the crowd. In remembrance of the respectable and courageous men and women whose lives were lost on September 11, 2001, an American flag graced the bleachers. In response to the slightly remorseful tone of the night, Ridge students courteously displayed their respect with patriotic spirit-wear paired with supportive and lively cheers. As the fourth quarter winded down to its last seconds, the Ridge student body erupted with a victorious roar.

The first game of the season brought a sense of excitement and surge of energy throughout the school. The Red Devils brought home a victory, leaving students with reassurance for an astounding year. When the homework begins to weigh you down and the Socratic seminars start to create anxiety, take a breath, wait for Friday night, and come out to support the Ridge Red Devils to another victory!
