As you walk along the corridors at school, on November 1 of every year, you notice something has changed, but you cannot quite say what. You realize that it has to do with the male population of the school, and suddenly you remember: November 1 commemorates the beginning of No-Shave November.
No-Shave November is a way for boys to become men and prove they can grow facial hair, inducing friendly competition. Says Chris Conroy ‘17, “It is a competition, but also fun, and is hilarious to see if the person can actually rock the beard or not.” No-Shave November started in 2009 on Facebook and had fewer than 50 participants, with the goal of raising cancer awareness; growing hair symbolizes the hair that cancer patients lose.
This year, the Key Club supported No-Shave November by organizing a fundraiser. Establishing this continuous tradition at Ridge High School makes this activity both fun, and worthy of a good cause.
